Description
Jinping-Sunan ±800kV UHVDC Transmission project starts at Yulong Converter Station in Xichang City. The 2089-kilometer power line has a transmission capacity of 7.2 GW, picking its way through Sichuan, Yunnan, Chongqing, Hunan, Hubei, Anhui and Zhejiang towards Jiangsu. It is the UHVDC project with the highest voltage, highest capacity and longest transmission distance. Upon completion in 2013, this project will ensure the timely delivery of the power from the hydropower station in Guandi and Jinping and alleviate the power shortage effectively in Eastern China.
On 8th July 2012, the lower end converter station of the project was commissioned successfully and was ready for commercial operation. Jinping-Sunan project was the first application of A5000 UHVDC converter valve, a proprietary technology developed and owned by C-EPRI. C-EPRI's A5000 valve is well suited for long distance bulk transmission, a breakthrough of UHVDC technology which has significant advantages in terms of enhanced transmission capacity, reduced cost, lower power losses and much more compact footprint.
The performance of A5000 UHVDC converter valve was well proved during the commissioning of the project. It passed all the tests successfully, such as AC system ground fault test, electrode ground fault test, 3-hour full load operation test and 2-hour over load operation test, etc., without any error report.
The successful operation of A5000 in Jinping-Sunan ±800kV UHVDC project marks a great milestone for China’s first self-developed UHVDC converter valve with complete and independent Intellectual Property Right.
